For April 2012 on SETFC
The SETFC Book Club met at the winter rally at Lazydays to discuss our first two books selected for reading. Markus Zusak's The Book Thief and David Baldacci's Hell's Corner.
We selected these books for the April 2012 rally at Charleston SC:
· James Michener's Recessional - Illuminates the challenges of aging and the folly of youth in a Florida retirement home known as the Palms
· Pat Conroy's South of Broad - Leopold Bloom King, the narrator, is the son of an amiable, loving father who teaches science at the local high school. His mother, an ex-nun, is the high school principal and a well-known Joyce scholar. After Leo's older brother commits suicide at the age of thirteen, the family struggles with the shattering effects of his death. The novel alternates between 1969, black and white, straight and gay, Appalachian-poor and old-Charleston-rich.
Read one or both books. If you don't have a chance to read the books, you are invited to come and maybe your interest will be piqued to read them.
Contact Carolyn McHale (cgmchale@verizon.net) if you have any additional books for the list or have any questions.
